Tom's Video

Robert Mielenhausen

My work depicts the street life, bicycles, and doorways of lower Manhattan. I have been incorporating my photo images into mixed-media paintings.

When photographing, I do not have a preconception as to how the final image will appear. In the studio, I respond to the photo by extending, and in some pieces abstracting elements of the photograph by utilizing acrylic paint and mixed-media. Occasionally a found object is incorporated into the art.

Having painted for many years I have maintained a passion for photography. I sought a way to unite the two disciplines. I believe in the importance of light and energy in forming the work. My present work captures the glow of the most vibrant city in the world, New York.
